'Elemental' is an evolving body of work in which I employ a method of working using the four elements of nature: Earth, Air, Fire and Water. The physical, plein air process of creating these works, captures the tangible moment when the primary forces of sunlight and the winds of time are frozen into being: low winter sun dancing on shingles; high solstice light bathing the meadow grasses; Sharp Sierra Nevada snowmelt; the salty sea of the Mediterranean; the heaving waters of the Atlantic. Paintings scratched and scarred by tumbling pebbles, the tidal dance, the caress of petals, leaves, stems: tactile memories intrinsically embedded.
It is a balancing act of control and freedom; of discipline and guidance, whilst simultaneously relinquishing all authority and throwing the odds to the winds, to chance encounters and the unexpected.
